What is the Suzuki Guitar Method?
The Suzuki Method is teaching string instruments using the teaching methodology of Japanese violin instructor Shinichi Suzuki. In this style of teaching students learn music in the same way as they learn their native language through listening, repetition, and parental encouragement. The goal is to not make every student a master of the instrument but create a strong connection and understanding of music that will be there for the rest of their lives.
The Suzuki method is designed for children as young as age 5 to begin learning and loving music. The role of the teacher and the parent is to encourage the child in the lessons and at home. This is done through games and a positive attitude towards playing music. To begin learning the Suzuki method parents are asked to read Nurtured by Love by Shinichi Suzuki.
